Way Back When-sday Filled in for Wheatley
/September 3, 1994: Look at these beautiful young folks. John Dogan clearly running the show. Godfather and Pammy tending to family. Captain Michigan with an uncomfortable mustache and a drink in hand. And young love blossoming with those Kelke kids. These were the days. Wheatley had a separated shoulder, but straight ahead Ed Davis and Tim Biakabutuka combined for 178 yards to assist quarterback Todd Collins in defeating upstart Big East foe Boston College 34-26.
This and the rest of the pictures from 26(!) years ago are here on the game page.
Way Back When-sday has an Origin Story
/September 12, 1992: Some stumbling drunk college kids bumped into an old man and his friends in South Bend before Michigan played Notre Dame to a 17-17 tie. They agreed to meet up before the next home game. A few years later, the guy in yellow married my sister. The rest, as they say, is history.
Way Back When-sday Remembers the Owls
/September 9, 2000. I can’t tell if they’re having a heart to heart of if they’re about to fight, but a crowd has gathered to witness whatever this is before Michigan pasted the Rice Owls 38-7. Game page is here. Speaking of owls, tomorrow marks the 1-year anniversary of an owl hanging out in my kitchen when I woke up…on Halloween.
Way Back When-sday Was Attacked
/October 6, 2001: I was assaulted by Nittany Lion Bloody Mary after running my mouth all morning, but The Wolverines would back up my talk, blanking Penn State 20-0. The home crowd around the tailgate seemed awfully concerned about me and my megaphone, but given at that moment in history, perhaps they would have been best served to look inward, Pictures from the tailgate, game, and what was perhaps the first Airbnb in history, are all here on the game page.
